Installation

STANDARD CHAT WORKS WITH ANY BROWSER

Windows XP users:
Microsoft VM has been made available in Service Pack 1, download from here: 
VM for Windows XP 

Full instructions are available in our SERVER MANUAL version 1.1 and SERVER MANUAL version 1.5 , 
we suggest that you print the manual and use it for a reference.

IMPORTANT INFO:

After installing the server and double clicking on the CustomChat icon to START the server, NOTHING WILL HAPPEN until you open a browser and go to: localhost:6743 and login as the Administrator. Username: admin  Password: gofish

Version 1.5 Installation Notes
Windows Instructions:
    Instructions
    • After downloading, double-click ccinst.exe

    Run
    • When the install is complete, click OK and then select CustomChat from your start menu or double click on the CustomChat icon on your desktop. When the hourglass disappears, type http://localhost:6743 in the location field on your browser.

    Notes
    • If you do not have a Java Virtual Machine - JVM installed, be sure to download the package above which includes one.

 
AIX Instructions:
    Instructions
    • After downloading open a shell and,  cd to the directory where you downloaded the installer.
    • At the prompt type:  sh ./ccinst.bin

    Run
    • When the install is complete, at the prompt type: ./CustomChat_Server
      Open your browser and type http://Your_IP_Address:6743 in the location field on your browser.

    Notes
    • You need to install a Java 1.1.4 (or later) virtual machine. You can download one from Sun's Java web site.

 
Solaris Instructions:
    Instructions
    • After downloading open a shell and,  cd to the directory where you downloaded the installer.
    • At the prompt type:  sh ./ccinst.bin

    Run
    • When the install is complete, at the prompt type: ./CustomChat_Server
      Open your browser and type http://Your_IP_Address:6743 in the location field on your browser.

    Notes
    • You need to install a Java 1.1.4 (or later) virtual machine. You can download one from Sun's Java web site.

 
Linux Instructions:
    Instructions

    Instructions (Unix or Unix-like operating systems)
    • For Java 2, after downloading, type
        java -jar ccinst.jar
    • For Java 1.1, after downloading, type
        jre -cp ccinst.jar install
    • If that does not work, try
        java -classpath [path to]classes.zip:ccinst.jar install
    • If that does not work either, on sh-like shells, try
        cd [to directory where ccinst.jar is located]
        CLASSPATH=ccinst.jar
        export CLASSPATH
        java install
    • Or for csh-like shells, try
        cd [to directory where ccinst.jar is located]
        setenv CLASSPATH ccinst.jar
        java install

    Instructions (for other platforms)
    • Be sure you have Java 1.1.6 or later installed. You can download Java from Sun's site
    • In a console window, change to the directory where you downloaded ccinst.jar to before running the installer
    • Your operating system may invoke Java in a different way. To start the installer, add ccinst.jar to your CLASSPATH, then start the main class of the installer named install

    Run
    • When the install is complete, at the prompt type: ./CustomChat_Server
      Open your browser and type http://Your_IP_Address:6743 in the location field on your browser.

Version 1.1 Installation Notes
Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows NT:
  • Click on the version you want and save the file to your hard drive. 
    After downloading, double-click install.exe

Run
    • When the install is complete, click OK and then select CustomChat from your start menu or double click on the CustomChat icon on your desktop. When the hourglass disappears, typehttp://localhost:6743 in the location field on your browser.

      The installer may take up to 10 minutes to find your JVM, so please be patient.

    Run
    • When the install is complete, at the prompt type: ./CustomChat_Server
      Open your browser and type http://Your_IP_Address:6743 in the location field on your browser.

    Notes
    • You will need to have a Java 1.1.8 (or later) virtual machine running on your computer. You can download one from Sun's Java web site, or contact your OS manufacturer.
      Minimum system requirements:
      Should run on any version of Unix
      64 MB ram
